Historical Brown House

By John Quinn

The Brown House was originally a one story house that had been built in 1826. The house had been owned by Revolutionary War Soldier Andrew McBride, who came out of South Carolina.

In 1874 Mrs Asa R. Brown added the second story floor after her husband had died. The two story house became The Brown Hotel. It was not until 1988 that the Henry County & Clayton Genealogical Society took over the place and restored it for a Historical Society for the McDonough Henry County Area.

The Historic Society holds very much information. But they will allow no one to go into the second story area.

They even have information on " Gone with The Wind."

McDonough was formed in 1821 after a treaty was signed by the Creek Indians. The city was named after Captain MacDonough. After a victory was won by him running the British out of Lake Champlain. Yes, McDonough Georgia is very in much history. I only hope that our Henry County Schools are teaching this History of our City and county to our children in the county here.
